March 2021 // The Senior Edition

From there, we walked up the steps in the first series of photos out to the home bleachers. I grabbed a couple shots of my model looking out to the field while holding his helmet, looking at me, then sitting down in the bleachers with the stadium light behind him with the same variation of poses, looking out onto the field, then at me. I haven’t mentioned anything about camera settings or lenses yet. As a general rule of thumb, I like to underexpose my backgrounds for at least one stop, and sometimes 2-3. If I had to pick one lens for shooting athletes, it would be a 24-70. Generally, I like to shoot almost every setup compressed and wide. This lens helps me to do both without switching lenses constantly. Sometimes that is unavoidable, as certain shots will need to be one or the other (wide or compressed), but generally speaking this lens helps me save time and avoid that.
